Dallas Event Photographers’ KEY to Keynotes
Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison delivering a keynote address
A corporate event often has many moving parts. During debrief sessions, our photographers will frequently say “this event had a lot going on - plenty to capture!”
And they are right. Many corporate events boast multi-day, multi-location, multi-activity, multi-speaker, multi-multi-multi! If you’re a novice, the “multi-nature” of Dallas corporate event photography could be downright overwhelming. But when you’re expert, the “multi-nature” is the name of the game, and not only have you come to expect it, you’ve come to love and appreciate it.
Our photographers are not new to the Dallas event photography scene. They know the landscape like the back of their hand. That means that when there are four panels going on simultaneously, they efficiently capture the panel shots needed and then head to the next one. When many things are overlapping, you want expertise in your corner.
With Dallas event photography being layered and sometimes very complex, our photographers must be always at the ready. There could not be a more important time to be at the ready than with keynote speakers. Here are our keys to keynotes:
Be prepared. We send questionnaires out about each and every event we cover - whether it’s an existing client or a brand new client. Questionnaires are a guide for our photographers. It gives them an idea of what will happen, the purpose of the event and the potential attendees. Our photographers live by the questionnaire. It is critically important for them which means it’s critically important for the client to fill it out accurately. There’s one question that never should be skipped: Any VIPs or important keynote speakers? When there are specifics listed for this question, our photographers know the hierarchy of needs at the event. VIPs and keynotes top the list!
Be aware. Schedules can shift on a dime with Dallas event photography. Our photographers must stay listening and aware or they might miss a time change or shift in the flow of show. We don’t ever ‘panic shoot’ events, we stay aware, present and ahead of the game.
Use our training. When shooting keynotes and VIPs, we use our many decades of training and experience to get the best shots. Dynamic speakers may garner faster “got-the-shot” time frames. Less dynamic speakers may take a bit to get a compelling shot fit for social media, website, marketing or print use. Just the other day, I was debriefing an event with one of our Dallas event photographers, and he was sharing with me that the keynote speaker he had shot the night before was compelling in content, he was quite stoic in delivery. Our photographer had to be patient and at-the-ready. And you know what? The moment happened, and he got the great shots that can be used in a variety of ways.
Stay creative. No two keynote speakers are the same. We’ve photographed 7ft tall NFL football players to petite senators (like Kay Bailey Hutchison pictured above) to Army generals with a commanding presence. JWCannon Creative photographers use their creative eye to capture all types of people. Take a look at our event gallery - the proof is in the pudding!
We’ve got keynote speaker photography down to a science - a creative, ever-changing science, of course! But we’ve got it down. And if you choose us for your Dallas event photography needs, you’re in great hands.
