Dallas corporate event photography: Capturing the BIG and small.

I was on a call yesterday with a corporate event planner, and we were discussing the must-have shots for their upcoming event. Some planners want to discuss the shot list prior to booking, some prefer to book then discuss. Either way, JWCannon Creative’s corporate event photography service is ready to help.

As I talked to this particular event planner, I thought… this topic deserves a blog post. And whenever I think that during the work day, I get to typing. If it’s important to one Dallas corporate event photography client, I’m nearly guaranteed that it’s important to many, many more.

What was it that this client said that sparked my “must write a blog post” brain? She said…

“I just want to make sure you can capture the moments of this event.” 

Isn’t that the ultimate want when it comes to event photography? You want the MOMENTS. Sure, there are posed portraits and some clients hire us for on-site Dallas and Fort Worth headshot photography during an event (the age-old ‘kill two birds with one stone’)... but by and large, when people hire us for events, they want the moments. 

That word kept ringing in my head: moments. And I just couldn’t shake it. When you think about weddings or personal celebrations like a milestone birthday or anniversary, you certainly think about capturing moments. A couple dancing, friends laughing about old times, people raising a glass to the good days, a perfectly timed celebratory kiss - there are so many moments we can think of.

But I think too few people realize how many ‘moments’ happen at corporate events. Moments aren’t just meaningful in the personal setting, they are deeply personal in the professional setting as well, and a great photographer will capture them and bring them back to life every time someone views the image.

Moments in the professional setting matter to people. Work is where we spend many of our days’ hours. Work is where we form friendships and lasting relationships for many years to come. Work is where we learn new things, grow in new and unexpected areas and hustle toward goals. It’s where we expend effort, time and passion. And for all of these reasons, a corporate event or conference is FULL of moments for all of the attendees… and that is what we aim to capture.

The moments are BIG and SMALL. The big moments, of course, are the showstoppers. Oftentimes, we know these are coming from our Dallas corporate event photography questionnaire. We ask about VIP attendees, special awards, event speakers, etc. And we get the big moments, in the right lighting, with the right angles. 

But personally, some of my favorite shots are the ones that are off-the-cuff, the seemingly non-moments. It’s a group of employees walking through a manufacturing plant. It’s a break-out session that brings the big laughs. It’s the rooftop happy hour where employees look less like coworkers and more like best friends. Those are the moments I enjoy seeing the most.
